Feargal Fly and National Children’s Book Week

I know you may not have downloaded or received the KnowledgeBox Topic Calendar yet but, when you do, I hope you find it handy to be reminded of special days and weeks. For example, 6th – 12th October is Children’s Book Week – a celebration of primary children reading for pleasure. This year’s theme is Rhythm and Rhyme.

Maybe you’d like to try a new interactive whiteboard resource to get your children truly absorbed during this week.  Feargal Fly Private Eye on Digitexts is a great one to try out. It’s not directly connected with Rhythm and Rhyme but I think it is a brilliant read and a personal favourite of mine.

  1. I used this resource last year with my Year 3 class.

We spent several weeks exploring the story. Then we created a new case for Feargal to solve with a crime scene. I sampled the pictures from the story, as well as creating some new ones, and the class wrote a new story using PowerPoint with hyperlinks!

It is a fantastic story and the children were really inspired to be detectives.

  2. Hi Alan,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us and the wonderful comments. We’re all blushing here I assure you. I’ll make sure the KnowledgeBox crew read your kind words.

On side note it’s always fascinating to hear about real classroom experiences with our products. You put blood, sweat and tears into making them but, to all intents and purposes, once they are in the classroom and being used you can only cross your fingers and hope that they are being enjoyed and valued.

Keep coming back to visit, Alan, and if you don’t mind I’ll be in touch soon as to whether you’d like to contribute to this blog as you are exactly the sort of inspirational teacher that keeps us coming back to work.

    Chris
